The German Lutheran Church outside Madison, Virginia, (now known as Hebron) maintained communion lists from 1775 to 1822. It has been observed that the lists of names are in the order of seating and that relatives often sat together. As a consequence, the lists have proven to be valuable for genealogical research besides being interesting. (Using this book, the previously unknown wife of Peter Fleshman has been found.) This is the great value of the book; it offers an insight into the community that is not possible by other methods.
The book is bound in a soft cover with fifty-two 8.5" by 11" pages. Fully indexed.
The cost is $16.00 with shipping and handling included. Order from John Blankenbaker at P.O. Box 120, Chadds Ford, PA 19317.
The authors, Andreas Mielke and John Blankenbaker, are students of the history of the church. In addition to their study of the communion lists, they have studied the membership, especially as reflected in baptismal lists, and they have studied the pastors of the church. This is the second edition of the Communion Lists.Home Page
